Politely Decline

Not wishing to be subjected to taxidermization you feel it best to decline Shannon’s offer to reprogram your reality. “While I do despise mediocrity, I’m afraid your offer is not relevant to my interests at this time. Thanks anyway.”

“Oh we see,” Shannon pouts dejectedly, “That’s fine, we understand. It’s obvious you’re trapped in your mediocrity and just need a gentle push. Seize him!” Cringing at the sudden ferocity of her command, you shield yourself against the impending onslaught. After a few moments of silent expectation, you lower your hands from their defensive position, only to see nothing has changed. Hands outstretched, face curled in a snarl, the would-be architect of your new reality stands motionless. Her minions stare blankly into space, each in whatever direction their eyes were installed. Not wishing to squander an opportunity to escape, backing out slowly, you exit the room the same way you entered, with only mild regret that you weren’t able to transcend your state of being.

The wail of approaching sirens reminds you of your plight and exiting through the window, you run through back alleys and hurdle fences, stopping to catch your breath in an unkempt backyard. You hide beneath a large shrubbery. With no desire to face this surreal situation naked any longer, you carefully weigh your options.

From your vantage point in the magnificent shrubbery you see a nearby house that appears to be empty. Surely there must be some clothes inside. Stealing is wrong unless, like Robin Hood, the proceeds are given to the poor, well you can’t be much poorer than having no clothes or memory. After all, clothes can’t be conjured out of thin air, or can they? Drawing upon years of experience in contemporary arts and crafts classes, you take a closer look at the surrounding bush and realize a garment might be fashioned from its supple and tender fronds.
